Barbara Currie is one of the UK’s leading Yoga experts. She has studied and taught Yoga for over 35 years. Her aim is to help as many people as possible reap Yoga’s amazing benefits which include vibrant positive health, fabulous body shape, ability to relax at will, flexibility of the spine and joints and amazing energy.
All this has been accomplished by means of her Surrey Yoga school, radio and TV appearances and her collection of videos, DVDs and books.
Always interested in health and fitness, Barbara originally trained as a State Registered Nurse at St Marys Hospital Paddington. After nursing she started to study languages in depth and became an air stewardess with BOAC (now British Airways).
It was after the birth of her second child and whilst living in Scotland she joined her first Yoga class and eventually went on to train to be a teacher. After qualifying she moved to Surrey and started teaching both her own Yoga classes and at the Hurlingham Club.
The success of these classes led to her being asked to present Yoga on the Thames Television Magpie series alongside Jenny Hanley and Tommy Boyd. After Magpie she made her first video ‘Shape up with Yoga’ for the Daily Mirror Group. This was followed by ‘The Cellulite Beater’ for BMG, which lead to regular appearances on GMTV providing a morning Yoga workout. At the same time the Barbara Currie School of Yoga Ltd continued to expand.
A prolific contributor to magazines, Barbara’s articles feature regularly in Yoga Magazine, and have appeared in Woman’s Weekly, Good Housekeeping, Woman’s Own and Slimming Magazine.
She has been a guest on many radio and TV shows, including Woman’s Hour, Drivetime, Open House with Gloria Hunniford, BBC Breakfast Time and Newsroom South East.
In the Autumn of 2009 Barbara teamed up with Body in Balance Television and is now teaching Yoga to both adults and children on this channel (Sky TV 275).
Barbara lives in Surrey with her husband and has two children and one granddaughter.
