Cat’s Blog | The Vitality Show 2010

As a resident Vitality girl I have unwittingly agreed to test out all manner of health, beauty and fitness all in the name of The Vitality Show. More used to home dye jobs and the odd fitness dvd than salons and personal trainers, I volunteered to test any new idea the rest of my team could come up with! Read about my adventures below.

Looking at my schedule, these two weeks should be the most intense and hardest I’ve had so far. Looking at my current fitness levels, I think I may struggle. I’ve come to realise that training for any sort of sporting event is more of a psychological battle than a physical one, and I frequently psyche [...]

With just 6 weeks to go until race day my training has had its ups and downs. I’m not exactly feeling at my fittest and am absolutely terrified at the thought of doing 10k:20k:5k in just over a month! With this in mind, my 10 day summer holiday to Croatia couldn’t really come at a [...]

Ok, no more whinging. No more excuses. Just running – lots of it. Week 11 started with a meeting with one of the show’s media partners, Women’s Running, and if that wasn’t going to motivate me then nothing was. Having read up on their fab tips on preventing shin splints, pacing yourself and increasing your [...]

After my absolute avoidance of any exercise over the past fortnight (well, I had to give myself a week off after Glasto to get ready to run again…) I was not looking forward to getting back into things. I started off with a very gentle jog on my lunch break in my new trainers and [...]

The past two weeks haven’t exactly been my most productive training moments. In fact, my shiny new trainers are still unlaced, in their box. Oops. This may be due to the fact that I spent 5 days camping, drinking and not showering – otherwise known as Glastonbury Festival.
Festivals aren’t exactly known for their health and [...]

Have you recently become a football widow? Instead of sitting around lamenting the invention of football and wondering when your boyfriend/husband/group of male friends will remember you exist, why not follow my guide to getting through the next 3 weeks? After all, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
Top 10 ways to embrace the World [...]

Week 5 began with a trip to the very lovely people at Profeet http://www.profeet.co.uk/ to get some custom insoles and trainers. I’ve been really struggling with shin splints and tight calf muscles each and every time I run, despite being the owner of some pretty expensive trainers. I’ve always thought my feet turn in (apparently this [...]

Things I saw this morning on my bike ride to work:
- 5 people not wearing helmets – why bother with a high vis vest, or even working brakes, if you’re not going to bother with a helmet? Yes hat hair is a nightmare. But I’d bet that brain damage is probably worse.
- A man riding [...]

With 20 weeks until race day, I figured I’d ease myself into the training  and start now, rather than panicking with only 6 weeks to go. I found a great 10 week duathlon training plan at http://www.duathlon247.com/article_5583.html and decided to extend this to the full 20 weeks, doing each week twice. I hoped this would [...]

I took part in my first ever duathlon last November – the Castle Combe Chilly Duathlon, and yes, it did live up to its name. I had an 8 week training plan to get me ready for the distance (the shortest distance available!) of a 2 mile run, 10 mile bike and 2 mile run. [...]
